Follow the scarlet macaw through the Copán sculpture museum
A scavenger hunt in Sculpture Museum at Copán Ruinas
Made by Mused
Squawk, a macaw is loose!
A bright red scarlet macaw just zoomed through this stone tunnel and into the museum. It loves hiding treasures, so let us follow it! Look out through the arch for a little bird friend.
The macaw found a red temple.
Whoa, look how red and green this giant temple is! A huge painted face is staring right at you. Something with fluttery wings landed on the stone path you just walked along.
Game on, says the macaw.
Level up! The macaw is playing a game down this long hall. The Maya played a famous ball game, and the macaw bounced the ball into one of the little windows in the brick wall nearby.
The macaw is reading the wall.
This wall is covered in carved blocks, and each little picture is a word or a sound. The macaw thinks it is a giant storybook. A hopping friend is hiding by the big stone head just around the corner.
Follow the feathers upstairs.
The macaw perched up here to look over the whole hall. The very first king of Copán was named K'inich Yax K'uk' Mo', and his name holds the Maya words for quetzal and macaw. Something long and wiggly is hiding in a corner right behind you.
The macaw lights the way home.
The sun is setting and the macaw is ready to roost. It left one last glowing treasure just around the corner of this brick wall. Find it and the party can start!
You followed the scarlet macaw through the whole museum and found every single treasure! Scarlet macaws still fly over the ruins of Copán today, so keep your eyes on the sky when you visit.
