The crew is after the gold in the Treasury urn

A scavenger hunt in Khazneh el-Far'oun, The Treasury, Petra, Jordan

Made by Mused

  1. Welcome to the crew, rookie.

The boss swears there is gold in the great stone urn at the end of this gorge, but somebody has scattered all our gear. Rope first, and rope always ends up near the water. Check the old channel the Nabataeans carved along the rock wall.

  2. The toolbox went for a walk.

Farther along, the gorge opens out by a little iron fence and some rock cut steps. Somebody left our toolbox somewhere around this bend. Keep your eyes on the foot of the cliffs.

  3. Act casual, there it is.

This is the famous first glimpse, where the narrow Siq opens onto the Treasury glowing in the sun. Keep one eye on that urn up top. Our getaway horse wandered off to make friends down in the busy square.

  4. Case the joint.

Stroll up close to the Treasury and gawp like any other tourist. The facade rises about forty meters, and see how chipped and pocked the urn on top is. Our lantern got left by the big fallen rocks at the foot of the cliff.

  5. Slip off into the side gully.

Leave the crowd behind and duck into the quiet gully where a big wall of stone cages holds back the floods. Lookouts love a dark hiding spot. Our binoculars are tucked away close by.

  6. One last piece of gear.

The climb is set for tonight under the stars. Out in the wide plaza, little electric carts wait in the shade of the cliff. Find the grappling hook near them and the job is on.

So the big job is off, and honestly that is the best news yet. The Nabataeans carved the Treasury straight out of the cliff in the first century AD, probably as a royal tomb, and that carving is the real treasure. Welcome to the crew for good, rookie.
